Israel's Rosa Parks emerges

Daphni Leef is the woman who pitched a tent and began a movement this summer.

Her speech yesterday to hundreds of thousands in Tel Aviv is a watershed moment and brilliant.

Everyone should take note:

What to do when we leave academia?

A lot of us have retired or on the edge of retiring. Given the global economic collapse, many of us will need new careers in retirement. What might we choose to do?

Paul Edwards has training in massage, including Cranial Sacral therapy. I have resorted to Cranial Sacral therapy for my many wounds. It is a powerful technique, but there are many others.

Many of us abused our bodies pounding out our tomes and staying up long hours into the night. We will need to rebuild and make some cash to keep us going on thin retirement funds.

Joe can be reached at: joedumit@massagetherapy.com

Let's talk about what we might choose to do when we are finally free to concentrate on our 'real' work, the work that HistCon started us percolating.

Ramona (I think I better start signing my posts)

Life outside Academia

Not all of us are inside the Academy and thank god for that. Let us know what you are doing!!! It is all important.

What do we need on this and/or our permanent website?

A few ideas, but please add your own:

1. A list of all grads and their dissertation titles
2. Every person who signs in to this site can create his/her own page (Or perhaps I have to do it) from which we can access any items we want, e.g. his/her home page, a list of courses taught and their syllabi (I think our collected syllabi would go a long way towards defining that nexus we are calling 'a school of thought,' a CV, a list of published works, address and other contact information, etc.
3. A timeline which lists who was at HistCon during which time periods. This would give us a visual representation of the waves of cohorts and the faculty who mentored each wave. It would be possible to link from each name on the timeline to an individual's page. The timeline itself could provide the entrance point to the rhizomatic map of Hist Con's "Legacies."
4. Another way to 'drive' the rhizome would be to find a way to connect cohorts and faculty in some visual representation which could be linkable.

IDEAS/IDEAS. We are seeking ideas and we know you all have plenty of them.

Donna's Retirement Party and Reunion "Legacies of Hist Con" Project

Post here about this week's events

Hist Con from 2011 on

Those of you who are part of History of Consciousness now, fill in the old timers on what is happening here.

Post Hayden White Era

Those of you who arrived on the scene after Hayden retired, post here for the time being.

The Hayden White Era

Those of you who were part of Hist Con during Hayden's tenure, please add anything you want here.

One of the things I noticed during this week's events is that Hayden's name came up over and over again, even for the earliest HistConners who were building the program before Hayden arrived.
